LILAC REFLECTIONS (2025)EDITORIAL.

Since childhood, I have wrestled with my mind over my body, leading to the gruelling challenges of bulimia nervosa as I grew older. Emerging from these hardships, I have found solace in reflecting on past versions of myself. "Lilac Reflections" is a deeply introspective project that explores battles with body autonomy, self-worth, and confidence.

The project unfolds through multiple elements. Firstly, a self-portrait series of my own body, framed and photographed in scenic, nostalgic landscapes. This symbolises giving our bodies a break and appreciating the broader picture, rather than hyper-fixating on small fragments of ourselves. It also challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, capturing my body in a way that once frightened me, ultimately helping me celebrate and recognise the beauty within myself.

The second element features a series of distorted images representing body dysmorphia and the barrier between our true selves and the illusion of our self-perception, as well as themes of hiding and concealing ourselves.

The third element draws inspiration from the lotus flower and its symbolism, representing life's ebbs and flows, rebirth, and renewal. The flowers symbolise the transformation of negativity into something uplifting and renewing. Throughout the imagery, lilac ribbons are incorporated to reflect eating disorder awareness.

My visions couldn't have been brought to life without a team of women who either resonated with or deeply understood the importance of the themes explored in this project. Their support and collaboration were instrumental in transforming my ideas into reality, and I am profoundly grateful for their contributions. Together, we have created a body of work that not only reflects my personal journey but also aims to inspire and empower others facing similar battles.
